118 x 84 cm (46.46 x 33.07 in) Geckos live underwater in large colonies, disguising themselves as giant pink brain corals amongst the shallow reefs. By aligning their spines head to tail the colony functions as a giant brain and performs quantum calculations on difficult philosophical questions. Sadly, once they leave the colony in search of food, their hive intelligence is gone and they are remarkably stupid. This, combined with their hot pink colour, results in heavy losses from predators, an existential problem the giant brain is unable to solve.
The design is based on a space-filling curve, each gecko follows head to tail across the design, visiting every part of the area. The trail starts at the lower right, and ends up at lower left, where the gecko catches a firefly. The spines of the geckos are highlighted in gold leaf, which under certain lighting illuminates and shows a delicate arabesque line tracing the path.
